PLDN Talks – Nick Jekyll – ‘4 Key Tips for Brands & Businesses’

WELCOME TO PLDN TALKS! AS WE ALL KNOW, CORONAVIRUS HAS GOT A HUGE CHUNK OF OUR INDUSTRY WORKING FROM HOME AND AS CREATIVES. WE LAUNCHED PLDN TALKS AS A SUPPORT PLATFORM DURING THE OUTBREAK. DAILY, BITESIZE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT FROM CREATIVE MINDS ALL OVER THE WORLD TO KEEP OUR COMMUNITY INSPIRED.

Hey guys, how are we? Is this still?  Thank you to the team for hosting this? This is a cool, cool initiative. I like this Paradise London Talks. I think it’s a really good idea to keep people motivated, keep people inspired and connect us whilst we’re all sitting at home. If you guys aren’t I’m on my laptop in my lounge and I’m don’t think I’ve ever spent as much time in my lounge as I have right now.

My name is Nick, I’m Creative Director at Paradise London. I’m going to use these two minutes just to share four key tips that hopefully are useful to you about creative motivation and inspiration. So aptly titled, four key tips for brands and businesses.

Stuff that you guys can do during this weird lockdown time. That I’ve been finding useful, so four bite-size takeaways. Here we go. Let’s go.

Number one – look after your brand.

Whether you’re freelance or even if you’re a big company or a small company. It’s a really good time to look after your brand. If you’re like me, you know, running around doing client stuff all the time.

As I’m sure everyone is, you don’t look after your brand as well as you should. So whether that’s updating brand guidelines, keeping the website ticking over, internal comms. All that kind of stuff. That takes a little bit of a back seat when you’re working with clients all the time. Now’s a really good time to do that. Look internally. Look what could be enhanced. Got a spare hour in your day. If you’re saving an hour and a half travel. Look after your brand.

Number two – team building.

I think this is really, really important when you’re working from home, everyone should be Skyping in the morning, Skyping in the afternoon, throwing creative ideas and briefs into people all day long.

Connect with the people you work with, asking for people’s thoughts on it. Taking polls, have one-on-ones, jump on house party. Make sure you’re connecting and keeping up and keeping in touch with people. Keeping people creatively motivated and get people’s opinions whilst having one on ones with people in your team that you wouldn’t normally.

There are definitely people, in my team that if I’m in the office, we wouldn’t necessarily sit down for 20 minutes and chat with each other and now is a good time to do that. They’re literally on the end of a phone, you’ve got to have a conversation.

Number three – initiatives that never got off the ground.

This may be more relevant to some of you than others, but if you’re like me and our business. Tons of creative people, tons of ideas, tons of creative minds, always thinking of new stuff. If something didn’t get off the ground, now’s the time to make it happen. This could be a social strategy, client-based thing, comms roll out or the PR angle that maybe you were looking at.

Take a vote on it, chat to other people. Decide on one that as a team, you’re still going to implement. Put it as a live brief. Put it into your schedules and your planning and actually come together and deliver it. What else to talk about.

Number four – Connect with someone new.

If you’re one of those. We should get coffee types. We should chat sometime types, but then you go to a gig on something else or cancel last minute. I know I can be a massive culprit of that. When life gets on top of you a little bit. Pick up the phone, jump on an email, just message someone and have a chat, have a conversation.

There’s nothing stopping you. Now, I think people will be really happy to hear from, from some people they haven’t heard from before. Open up a line of comms. Email someone, introduce yourself, tell someone about your business. Talk about what you’re excited about, talking about what you’re worried about, connect with someone new. This is, this is actually really important.

We should be doing this anyway outside of business stuff. But if you’re worried about your business, if you’re worried as a freelancer, you’re looking to get more work. Email me, talk to me, share your portfolio. Definitely just get in touch, get in touch with people and you can make a new relationship.

Use this time so that when this is all over, and we move forward and everything comes back to normal. You’re going to have a whole new network that you can connect and work with and collaborate with.

Thank you, guys. I hope you find this helpful. I’m not sure if it was, it was just rambling away.

I really, really look forward to seeing what other creative inspiration and tips other people come up with any industry. , I really look forward to watching these. Thank you Paradise London for coming up with this, this is a cool idea. I hope you found my one remotely helpful. Thanks a lot.

Check back each day for a new topic, from a new creative – you might learn something useful!
